UNC Asheville Travels to Campbell for Final Road Match of 2017 Regular Season

BUIES CREEK, N.C. – The UNC Asheville volleyball team hits the road this weekend to take on Campbell on Saturday, Nov. 4, 2017.
First serve in the Big South Conference matchup between UNC Asheville (11-13, 7-6 Big South Conference) and Campbell (17-9, 7-5 Big South Conference) is scheduled for 2 p.m.
The match is the final road match of the 2017 regular season for the Bulldogs.

Still Serving it Up Right
The UNC Asheville volleyball team has continued to keep itself among the elite in the nation as a team in service aces. The Bulldogs are currently averaging 1.67 aces as a team per set, which places them 13th in all of NCAA Division I.
In the Overall Big South Statistics
Cara Guthrie is currently third in the Big South in kills (3.80) and points (4.35) per set. The Bulldogs have three in the top-10 in the league in service aces per set in KK Haley (third – 0.41), Sheridan Salisbury (0.38) and Guthrie (seventh – 0.35). Ava Venema is ninth in hitting percentage at .283.
In League Matches in the Statistics
Sheridan Salisbury is presently second in Big South matches with 0.47 service aces per set. She is joined in the top-10 by teammates KK Haley (fourth – 0.44) and Cara Guthrie (fifth – 0.38). Guthrie is also third in league matches in both kills (4.02) and points (4.66) per set. Kailey Hackett is currently 10th in league play with 5.00 assists per set.

Big South Player of the Week
UNC Asheville junior outside hitter Cara Guthrie was chosen as the Big South Volleyball Player of the Week this past week. The league office made the official announcement on Monday, Oct. 30, 2017. Guthrie's honor marks the second time this season – and second time in October – that she was selected league Player of the Week. She also earned the honor on Monday, Oct. 9, 2017.
Guthrie finished off UNC Asheville's perfect 2-0 weekend last week with 38 kills and 41 digs on the week. She averaged 4.56 digs and 4.22 kills per set in the two matches. Guthrie also had five blocks and two service aces on the weekend. Guthrie finished UNC Asheville's win at Charleston Southern with 26 digs and 23 kills. The 23 kills by Guthrie are a UNC Asheville single-match high in the 2017 season. Her 26 digs were also a season-best and career-best for Guthrie. Guthrie had 15 kills and 15 digs in the Bulldog win at Winthrop.
Honorable Mention for National Player of the Week
UNC Asheville's Cara Guthrie was considered for VolleyMob Player of the Week last week in addition to earning league Player of the Week plaudits. Guthrie was named an Honorable Mention selection for Player of the Week by the publication.
Great Weekends
It was a tremendous weekend statistically for the Bulldogs last week with Cara Guthrie finishing with 41 digs (4.56 digs per set) and 38 kills (4.22 kills per set). Three Bulldogs finished with over 20 kills on the weekend with Ava Venema ending her weekend with 22 kills (2.44 kills per set) and 11 blocks (1.22 blocks per set). Ansley Rooks averaged 2.22 kills (20 kills) and 3.11 digs (28 digs) per set in the two Bulldog wins. Madisen Zyburt averaged 5.44 digs (49 digs) per set.
Regular Season Sweeps
The Bulldogs completed two season league sweeps last weekend. UNC Asheville secured a 3-0 (25-16, 25-15, 25-13) win over Big South Conference foe Charleston Southern on Saturday, Oct. 7, at the Justice Center, in their first meeting of the season. With the win on Friday, Oct. 27, the Bulldogs garnered the season sweep of Charleston Southern. UNC Asheville collected a 3-0 (25-23, 25-21, 25-23) win over Winthrop at the Justice Center on Friday, Oct. 6, in their first meeting of the season. UNC Asheville's thrilling 3-2 win on Saturday, Oct. 28, allowed UNC Asheville to take both regular season meetings with Winthrop.
