Smith and Allen Shatter School Records as Bulldogs Post Another Successful Day

DAY TWO COMPLETE RESULTS
CHARLOTTE, N.C. – In an exciting and fast day two, the UNC Asheville swimming team saw two more school records, 10 life-time best times and numerous season bests fall as the Bulldogs recorded a successful Saturday at the Fall Frenzy Invitational at the Mecklenburg County Aquatic Center.

Day Two Preliminary Highlights
Five Bulldogs started the individual events red-hot as they all posted season-best times in the 400 individual medley – Madison Rogan, Stephanie Smith, Sydney VandenBerg, Allie Snyder and Glenna Whaley. Rogan led the Bulldogs as she finished fifth with a 4:32.59, and Smith placed sixth with a 4:33.65 as the duo earned a berth to the A Final. VandenBerg was the lone Bulldog representative in the B Final, while Snyder and Whaley earned C Finals recognition.
Following the 400 IMs, eight Bulldogs posted season-best times in the 100 butterfly – Catherine Allen, Emily Werth, Carly Emerson, Savanah Crutchfield, Katie Brown, Haley Bennison and Melissa Brown. Allen (57.19) and Werth (58.79) led the Bulldogs as both earned berths into the B Finals, and Crutchfield, Emerson and Jewell produced C Finals.
In the 200 freestyle, three swimmers placed in the top 10 as Skylar Rogan (life-time best of 1:56.16) was second overall. Adee Weller (1:54.12) was fourth, and Ale Sanchez Garcia (1:56.16) was seventh.
Continuing the team's success, five Bulldogs finished in the top 20 in the 100 breaststroke – Morgan Rulevich (fourth, 1:05.23), Emma Nelson and Emerson (t-13th, 1:09.53), Snyder (15th, 1:10.16) and Shannon Kennedy (17th, 1:10.72). Rulevich received an A Final berth while Emerson, Nelson and Snyder earned B Final bids.
For the final preliminary event (100 backstroke), five Bulldog swimmers were placed in the top 10. Werth paced UNC Asheville as she placed fourth with a 57.78. Smith, Sanchez Garcia, Jessica Woolfe and Nelson finished in order (7th-10th) as Smith and Sanchez Garcia earned A Finals berths.
Day Two Finals Highlights
To kick off the finals sessions, Smith broke a school record and life-time best in the 400 IM. She clocked in at 4:27.95, which was good enough for fourth. VandenBerg and Snyder followed with life-time bests of their own at 4:35.39 and 4:44.58, respectively. Madison Rogan posted the second-best Bulldog finish in the event with a 4:36.48 in the 400 IM.
Continuing with the trend, Allen broke the second school record of the day as she recorded a 57.01 in the 100 fly. She finished ninth as the only Bulldog to finish in the top 10. Emerson and Crutchfield finished with life-time bests, while Werth placed 14th at 59.22.
In the 200 freestyle, Weller and Skylar Rogan went third and fourth as Weller picked up a life-time best 1:52.74, while Skylar Rogan clocked in at 1:53.46. Sanchez Garcia placed eighth (1:55.92), and Elizabeth Conte posted a life-time best (1:57.85) and a 12th place finish.
Five more Bulldogs continued to set high standards as they each broke season-best times in the 100 breaststroke. Rulevich earned runner-up honors with a 1:04.61, and Emerson and Nelson went 12th and 13th as they each finished within 0.45 seconds of one another. Out of the B Final, Snyder finished 15th overall, and Kennedy finished first in the C Final (17th overall) as she shaved off 1.67 seconds off her preliminary time.
Werth guided the Bulldogs in the 100 backstroke final as she placed fifth with a season-best 57.72. Nipping at her heels was Sanchez Garcia and Smith as they finished seventh and eighth, respectively. Nelson capped off the top 10 finishes for the Bulldogs with a 59.62.
Day Two Relay Highlights
The first event of the entire day was the 200 medley relay, and the Bulldogs placed their A Relay in fifth place as Werth, Rulevich, Brown and Woolfe finished with a team season-best 1:48.07. UNC Asheville's B Relay placed ninth with a 1:51.86.
In the final event of day two, Allen, Sanchez Garcia, Weller and Skylar Rogan finished in the top 5 (fourth), while the B and C Relays for Asheville all placed in the top 10.
