ASHEVILLE, N.C. – The UNC Asheville volleyball team returns to action with two Big South Conference matches at the Justice Center this weekend.

The Bulldogs will first play host to Winthrop at 7 p.m. on Friday, Oct. 6, before ending the weekend by playing host to Charleston Southern at 1 p.m. on Saturday, Oct. 7.

UNC Asheville (6-9, 2-2 Big South Conference) and Winthrop are currently tied atop the Big South Conference standings in service aces per set at 1.66. The 1.66 service aces per set as a team has them both tied for 22nd in the nation.

In the Big South Conference Statistics Overall
UNC Asheville's Cara Guthrie is currently in third in the Big South in kills (3.64) per set. She is tied for second in the league in points per set (4.12). UNC Asheville's Ava Venema is presently fifth in the league in hitting percentage (.326). The Bulldogs have two in the top-10 in service aces per set in KK Haley (fourth – 0.40) and Sheridan Salisbury (fifth – 0.36).

In conference matches, UNC Asheville as a team is currently second in the league in hitting percentage at .260. Ansley Rooks is leading the way in the category for the Bulldogs at .382, which is good for third in the league. Ava Venema is 10th in league matches with a .304 hitting percentage. UNC Asheville's Cara Guthrie is leading the league in kills (3.94) and points (4.53) per set. Winthrop enters the match with UNC Asheville owning a record of 12-6 on the season. The Eagles are 3-1 on the year in league play. Sydney Gunter leads Winthrop in kills on the year with 185, while Siania Yamaguchi is leading the team in digs with 155. Charleston Southern travels to UNC Asheville owning a record of 7-12 on the year. The Buccaneers are 2-3 in league matches so far. Kylie Klein leads Charleston Southern in kills on the year, while Madison Martin is leading the team and is first in the Big South with 350 digs.

Weekend Promotions
This weekend will feature a plethora of different promotions at the Justice Center. Friday's match against Winthrop will be the "Battle of the Classes" at UNC Asheville Part 2 as well as a "Kids Day Takeover" where all kids are invited to participate in a variety of activities throughout the match. It is also "Literacy Night" at UNC Asheville with free admission to all fans who donate three books to the book drive on the evening. Saturday will be "Special Olympics" day at UNC Asheville with free admission to all Special Olympic athletes and volunteers during the tripleheader on the day with volleyball (1 p.m. – Charleston Southern) and women's soccer (4 p.m. – High Point) and men's soccer (7 p.m. - Liberty) all in action.
