Freshman of the Week
UNC Asheville freshman defender Dante Bova has been selected as the Big South Men's Soccer Freshman of the Week. The league office made the official announcement on Monday, Oct. 30, 2017.

In UNC Asheville's two matches last week, Bova had two assists from his defensive position as well as playing every available minute for the Bulldogs.

Bova also helped anchor the UNC Asheville defense to a shutout road league win at Winthrop. On the year, the freshman defender from Hartland, Wis. has played in and started all 17 matches for the Bulldogs.

Last Time Out
On a snowy afternoon, Campbell narrowly escaped UNC Asheville's upset advances with a 2-1 win in double overtime at Greenwood Field.

The Bulldogs controlled things in the match and looked to be heading to at the least their second straight positive result, but a Camel penalty kick in the 109th-minute by Bastien Oberli garnered Campbell the narrow win.

It was UNC Asheville that arrived on the scoreboard first in the contest with Zack Compton scoring in the 11th-minute to give the Bulldogs a 1-0 advantage. The goal was beautifully executed by Asheville with Kyle Adams' header finding Dante Bova's head for a flick on to Compton that he headed into the back of the net.

The score would remain 1-0 in favor of Asheville until the 38th-minute when JJ Donnelly scored off a Travis Gonzalez assist.

The two teams from there would remain tied at 1-1 until the Oberli goal in the 109th-minute.

The Bulldogs had the better of the chances up until that point with Asheville narrowly missing multiple times. UNC Asheville goalkeeper Nabil Milani made a tremendous diving save in the second half as well to keep the game even at 1-1.

UNC Asheville overall outshot the Camels, 26-11. The Bulldogs had a commanding 10-4 advantage in corner kick opportunities.

Quotable
"We are excited to play Presbyterian. It's a team that has done a good job and qualified for the Big South Tournament. Coach Potter has done an excellent job the past two seasons. They cause a great challenge. They've got really superlative results, especially their win over Campbell, which certainly makes all of us kind of sit up and take notice. They're a team that can get at you and score goals. They are hardnosed and they play the right way. It's going to be a great opportunity for us. Obviously, I think that we are all a little disappointed that we are not playing after Wednesday, but I thought our effort and the way we approached the game against Campbell was excellent. I thought we were a little unfortunate again, but that's the game. It's a great opportunity for us to end the year on a positive note and send out our seniors on their last game at Greenwood in the right way. We are looking forward to it and it looks like the weather is going to cooperate, so it should be a fan-friendly night, but overall we are excited to go out and show what we can do. We've played well over the last couple of games and I think that has a lot to do with us not digging ourselves holes and giving ourselves a chance to compete for 90 minutes. When we do that, I think we have shown we are pretty good soccer team. It's another opportunity for us to go and continue our process and endeavor to play the right way." – Head Coach Mathes Mennell
