Guthrie Named Big South Volleyball Player of the Week

CHARLOTTE, N.C. – UNC Asheville junior outside hitter Cara Guthrie has been chosen as the Big South Volleyball Player of the Week.

The league office made the official announcement on Monday, Oct. 30, 2017.

Guthrie's honor marks the second time this season – and second time this month – that she has been selected league Player of the Week. She also earned the honor on Monday, Oct. 9, 2017.

Guthrie finished off UNC Asheville's perfect 2-0 weekend with 38 kills and 41 digs on the week. She averaged 4.56 digs and 4.22 kills per set in the two matches. Guthrie also had five blocks and two service aces on the weekend.

Guthrie finished UNC Asheville's win at Charleston Southern with 26 digs and 23 kills. The 23 kills by Guthrie are a UNC Asheville single-match high in the 2017 season. Her 26 digs were also a season-best and career-best for Guthrie.

Guthrie had 15 kills and 15 digs in the Bulldog win at Winthrop.

On the year, Guthrie has 334 kills (3.80 kills per set) and 253 digs (2.88 digs per set). Guthrie is currently third in the Big South Conference in kills per set and points per set (4.35). She is also seventh in the league with 0.35 service aces per set.

UNC Asheville will next travel to Buies Creek, N.C. to take on league rival Campbell at 2 p.m. on Saturday, Nov. 4.
