CHARLESTON, S.C. – The UNC Asheville volleyball team will hit the road for two Big South Conference matches this weekend.
The Bulldogs (9-13, 5-6 Big South Conference) will first take on Charleston Southern (8-17, 3-8 Big South Conference) at 7 p.m. on Friday, Oct. 27, in Charleston, S.C. UNC Asheville will close out the weekend by battling Winthrop (14-11, 5-6 Big South Conference) at 4 p.m. on Saturday, Oct. 28.
BULLDOG BITES
Among the Best in the Nation
UNC Asheville volleyball continues to keep itself among the best in the country in service aces per set. Entering the weekend, UNC Asheville is presently tied for 13th in all of NCAA Division I college volleyball with 1.70 service aces per set.
In the Big South Statistics Overall
Cara Guthrie is currently third in the Big South in matches overall with 4.30 points and 3.75 kills per set. UNC Asheville's KK Haley is third in the league in service aces per set at 0.41. She is one of three in total among the top-10 in the category with Sheridan Salisbury sixth at 0.38 and Guthrie seventh at 0.37 per set. Ava Venema is ninth in the league in hitting percentage at .289.
In Big South Matches
Cara Guthrie is currently second in league matches in points per set at 4.76. She is third in kills per set in league matches at 3.98. Sheridan Salisbury is currently second in service aces per set in league matches at 0.47. She is joined in the top-5 by KK Haley (fourth – 0.44) and Guthrie (fifth – 0.41). UNC Asheville's Cecilia Stack is presently 10th in league matches with 0.77 blocks per set.
Over 700/800
Cara Guthrie's eight kills in the match with High Point on Friday, Oct. 20, allowed her to surpass 800 kills in her career. After the Radford match on Saturday, Oct. 28, she now has 815. In the Radford match, Guthrie's seven digs allowed her to surpass 700 in the category as she now has 703 in her career.
Second Meetings of the Season
UNC Asheville secured a 3-0 (25-16, 25-15, 25-13) win over Big South Conference foe Charleston Southern on Saturday, Oct. 7, at the Justice Center, in their first meeting of the season. UNC Asheville finished its win hitting .278 as a team. The Bulldogs limited Charleston Southern to just .023 hitting as a team in the match. The Bulldogs were led in its win over the Buccaneers by Cara Guthrie's 15 kills. She also had six digs and a service ace. UNC Asheville collected a 3-0 (25-23, 25-21, 25-23) win over Winthrop at the Justice Center on Friday, Oct. 6, in their first meeting of the season. Guthrie led the Bulldogs in the match with 16 kills and five digs. She also had four service aces.
