Last Time Out
UNC Asheville men's soccer controlled things in the match, but it was Longwood that picked up a narrow 2-1 Big South Conference win over the Bulldogs on Saturday, Oct. 21. Brendan O'Dowd scored his third career goal in the match. O'Dowd's goal came off a chipped in cross from Ben Chapal. O'Dowd fully took advantage of the cross by finishing it to the far post. UNC Asheville absolutely dominated the second half statistically with the Bulldogs outshooting the Lancers, 9-4. The Bulldogs overall outshot Longwood, 15-10, in the match. Both teams had three corner kick opportunities in the match.

Quotable
"It's a great opportunity for us to play against Winthrop. The fact of the matter is that we're hanging by a thread in terms of trying to get into the Big South Tournament. The only thing that will allow us to continue holding on to that thread is three points. Winthrop's a very good team. They are very dynamic in their attacking moments. They are well-coached. It should be a great game. I think for us, again, and I know like I sound like a broken record, but we have played really good soccer and we continually find ways or the game finds ways to create holes for us to dig our way out of. That's just really hard in Division I soccer, especially in the Big South Conference to create holes to get out of, and we've got to do a better job of to not proverbially shoot ourselves in the foot and at the same time get ourselves in the same attacking moments that we did. We created some great chances and were a little unlucky against Longwood, but, again, when you go down two goals off the bat, it's a tough way to do it. Our guys have been great at training and the attitude has been fantastic and we are looking forward to the opportunity to finally put together a complete 90-minute performance and get three points on the road." – Head Coach Mathes Mennell
