Battle of the Top Three in Big South Standings On Tap for Bulldogs This Weekend

RADFORD, Va. – The UNC Asheville volleyball team looks to keep up its winning ways this weekend with two Big South Conference road matches at Radford and High Point.
The weekend for the Bulldogs will feature matchups between the current top three teams in the Big South Conference standings. Currently, High Point (14-6, 7-0 Big South Conference) is leading the way in the league, while UNC Asheville (8-9, 4-2 Big South Conference) and Radford (14-3, 4-2 Big South Conference) are presently tied for second entering the weekend's matches. UNC Asheville will first take on Radford in Radford, Va. at 7 p.m. on Friday, Oct. 13, before the Bulldogs face off against High Point at 2 p.m. in High Point, N.C. on Saturday, Oct. 14.

UNC Asheville volleyball is currently in the top-10 in the country at No. 7 with 1.81 service aces per set.
In the Big South Overall Statistics
The 1.81 service aces per set is also leading the Big South Conference in the category. UNC Asheville entering the weekend presently has three in the top-10 in the conference in service aces per set with KK Haley third at 0.44, Sheridan Salisbury fifth at 0.39 and Cara Guthrie sixth at 0.35. Guthrie is currently second in the Big South in points per set (4.31) and third in kills per set (3.79). UNC Asheville's Ava Venema is fifth in the league in hitting percentage (.321).
In Big South Conference Matches
UNC Asheville is presently second in league matches in hitting percentage (.261) and opponent hitting percentage (.171). The Bulldogs are leading the way in service aces per set in league matches at 2.29 per set. Cara Guthrie is leading the Big South in league matches with 4.25 kills and 4.92 points per set. Ava Venema is 10th in league matches with a .299 hitting percentage, while Kailey Hackett is 10th in the league in assists per set at 5.00. UNC Asheville's Cecilia Stack is third in league play with 1.04 blocks per set. Sheridan Salisbury is leading the conference in league play with 0.58 aces per set, while KK Haley is third (0.54) and Guthrie is fifth (0.42).
Big South Player of the Week
UNC Asheville junior outside hitter Cara Guthrie was chosen as the Big South Volleyball Player of the Week. The league office made the official announcement on Monday, Oct. 9. Guthrie led UNC Asheville and the Big South last week with 5.17 kills and 6.08 points per set. Guthrie overall in UNC Asheville's two matches last week had 31 kills, 11 digs and five service aces. Guthrie hit .347 on the week. In UNC Asheville's sweep of Winthrop, Guthrie finished with 16 kills, five digs and four service aces. She followed up that performance by finishing with 15 kills, six digs and one service ace in UNC Asheville's sweep of Charleston Southern. Guthrie now has over 750 kills in her career with 754.
About Radford and High Point
Radford welcomes the Bulldogs owning a record of 14-3 overall and 4-2 in league play. The Highlanders are led by Big South Preseason Player of the Year Maddie Palmer. The outside hitter is averaging 3.95 kills and 3.14 digs per set. High Point hosts the Bulldogs owning an overall record of 14-6 and 7-0 in league action. Molly Livingston is leading the Panthers with 229 kills on the year. Haley Barnes is just behind in overall kills to Livingston, but she is leading High Point in kills per set (3.14). Abby Bottomley is averaging 5.19 digs per set.
