Bulldogs Post Strong Performances at Darius Dixon Memorial Invitational

THE MEET
Darius Dixon Memorial Invitational
Location: Liberty Indoor Track Complex / Lynchburg, Va.
Dates: Jan. 27-28
 
LYNCHBURG, Va.—The UNC Asheville men's and women's track and field teams concluded competition at the two-day Darius Dixon Memorial Invitational Saturday afternoon. 
 
The day began with senior Argia Gibson placing 12th in the women's long jump with a distance of 5.32 meters. Sophomore Chris McKoy followed by placing 18th (6.09m) on the men's side.
 
Junior Kayli Nichols placed ninth in the 60 meter hurdles (8.86m), setting a school record and advancing to the semifinals where she went on to record a 12th-place finish. Nichols also set a school record with a time of 1:16.00 in the 500 meter dash.
 
Freshman Jailah Grimes advanced to the 60 meter dash finals when she placed 24th in the prelims with a time of 8.08 seconds.
 
Junior Hunter Koike finished ninth in the 200 meter dash with a time of 22.1.
 
Freshman, Matthew Harding continued his early season success, finishing fifth, with a time of 49.43 in the 400 meter dash.
 
In the 800 meter run, freshman Kamyrn Decarmo came in the top 15 with a time of 2:23.87. On the men's side, senior, Chase Stevens finished seventh (1:58.30).
 
Junior Dominic Collichio came in ninth place in the one mile run with a time of 4:23.21. In addition, sophomore, Blanton Gillespie (12th), junior, David Hager (19th), and freshman, Zach Boone (20th), all placed in the top 20, with respective times of 4:25.31, 4:30.05 and 4:31.19. Collichio then went on to finish 12th in the 3000 meter run with a time of 8:58.36.
 
On the women's side, two more Bulldogs placed in the top 20, with senior Amy Castle placing 15th (5:22.37) and sophomore Kelley Coleman finishing 18th (5:28.44).
 
BULLDOG BITES
BREAKING RECORDS: Nichols turned in a pair of strong performances on the afternoon, establishing school bests in both the 60 meter hurdles and the 500 meter dash.
 
RUNNING HARD(ING): Harding continued his early collegiate success with another top five finish, in the 400 meter dash. Harding had two top three finishes last week, one in the 500 meter dash and another in the 1000 meter run.
 
UP NEXT: With the conclusion of the Darius Dixon Invitational today, the Bulldog men and women will travel just up the road to Johnson City, Tenn. to compete in the two-day Buccaneer Invitational on Feb. 3-4.
