Welcome Back Event Officially Kicks Off the Semester the Right Way for Bulldog Athletics

Assistant Athletics Director for Student-Athlete Success Rebecca Nelms loved seeing the camaraderie among the student-athletes, coaches and UNC Asheville athletics staff on the evening of Monday, Jan. 23, 2017.
In fact, to her there is nothing better.
"Seeing the entire department come together in one group toward a common goal is my favorite part of the year," Nelms said.
That appreciation for UNC Asheville and being a part of one big Bulldog team was more than apparent at the Sherrill Center at the Welcome Back event to officially kick off the semester.
The evening commenced with Director of Athletics Janet R. Cone talking about all of the great things happening with UNC Asheville athletics.
"I'm as always proud to be a Bulldog, but I'm especially excited about kicking off this year," Cone told everyone in attendance.
One of the organizers for the event along with Nelms, Associate Athletics Director for Sport Administration and Operations Terri Brne then presented to the student-athletes and everyone in attendance that the kickoff event would be focused on communication.
UNC Asheville athletics on the whole has been working hard to focus on communication as a department and to jumpstart conversation among the student-athletes, coaches and the staff a video was shown where author and motivational speaker Simon Sinek spoke on millennials in the workplace.
After the conclusion of the video, the student-athletes were then broken down into small groups that were led by Bulldog coaches and staff to discuss their thoughts on the video.
The group discussions closed out the unique evening that even further reinforced just how special it is to be a Bulldog.
"The No. 1 thing we have going at this University is the people," Cone said.
