Milledge Austin Hired as Assistant Director of Communications

ASHEVILLE, N.C. – UNC Asheville Director of Athletics Janet R. Cone has announced the hiring of Milledge Austin as an Assistant Director of Communications.
Austin joins the UNC Asheville athletics department out of Georgia Southern where he was the main contact for the men's soccer, women's basketball and softball teams as well as helping with all the other athletic programs.
"We are excited to have Milledge Austin join our Bulldog team," Cone said. "Milledge has vast experience and he also brings a great deal of knowledge that will benefit our athletics communications tremendously."
In addition to his time at Georgia Southern, Austin has served as the Assistant Athletics Director for Communications at NCAA Division II North Georgia in Dahlonega, Ga. and as the Director of Operations and Sports Information at NCAA Division II Montana State University Billings in Billings, Mont. In addition, Austin worked at the University of South Carolina Aiken as the Media Resources Consultant and Assistant Studio Producer for Instructional Services.
Austin reunites at UNC Asheville with Assistant Athletics Director for External Relations Brian Hand. The two worked together previously at USC Aiken when Hand was the Assistant Athletics Director for Communications and Promotions for the Pacers.
A 2009 graduate of USC Aiken, Austin as the Assistant Sports Information Director at USC Aiken helped maintain the Pacers' social media network, served as the director/producer for home webcasts and also helped commence a bi-weekly YouTube show, "Inside Pacer Athletics," which earned the NCAA Division II Game Environment Award of Excellence.
Austin and Hand also earned four awards from the Collegiate Sports Information Directors of America (CoSIDA) for their work on USC Aiken media guides, including two "Best in the Nation" plaudits.
