ASHEVILLE, N.C. – The UNC Asheville men's soccer team takes on the Liberty University Flames  at noon on Saturday, Oct. 1 at Osborne Stadium in Lynchburg, Va.

NOTABLES:

Last Time Out: UNC Asheville was dominated in the first half by Appalachian State on Tuesday night, falling behind 2-0. But the Bulldogs picked up their intensity in the second half, got a goal from junior midfielder Andrew Lawrence from 25 yards out, and just failed to tie when a shot from inside the box sailed wide in the closing seconds.

Scouting Liberty: The Flames lost a non-conference match at home 1-0 to Dayton on Tuesday night after winning their Big South Conference opener 4-3 at Winthrop last Saturday. Liberty's leading scorer is sophomore forward Tresor Mbuyu of Charlotte, who has scored 5 goals on 21 shots.

Trying to Stay On Top: Both teams were rated mid-pack in the Big South Conference preseason coaches poll, but currently are part of a four-way tie atop the standings, having won their first conference match. Seeding in November's Big South Conference Championship Tournament is now the prime focus as each team has only one non-conference match remaining on the schedule.

QUOTABLES:

“We're very excited to continue conference play in Lynchburg against a very talented Liberty team. As we've seen so far, the Big South is wide open this year. Liberty is a well-coached team that is very good in the counter-attack, so we're going to have to give ourselves good chances when we have possession.” – Head Coach Mathes Mennell
