Zach Joens Named Big South Conference Men's Soccer Attacking Player of the Week

09.26.2016 | Men's Soccer

CHARLOTTE, N.C. – UNC Asheville senior forward Zach Joens has been named the Big South Men's Soccer Attacking Player of the Week.

Joens scored twice in both of UNC Asheville's matches last week, as he opened with both of the Bulldogs' two goals in a 3-2 overtime setback to Georgia State on Wednesday. The senior followed with a pair of goals, including the eventual game-winner, and an assist in UNC Asheville's 3-2 home victory over Longwood in its conference opener.

"I am really pleased for Zach to be honored by the Big South.  He has been battling injuries throughout the first part of the season, so it is nice to have him back on a consistent basis.  Zach is a player who likes to score goals and makes our team much better when he is on the field.  I thought he was really effective for us last week and it is great to have our players and our program recognized by our Big South peers." – Head Coach, Mathes Mennell

Joens and the Bulldogs return to action Tuesday night at Greenwood Field to take on mountain rival  Appalachian State at 7:00pm.
