ASHEVILLE, N.C. – The UNC Asheville Bulldogs host the Longwood University Lancers in men's soccer at 3 p.m. on Saturday, Sept. 24 at Greenwood Field.

NOTABLES:

Last Time Out: The Bulldogs suffered their first home loss of the season on Wednesday, a heartbreaker decided in the final minute of overtime when Georgia State struck for the winning goal. UNC Asheville got two goals from Zach Joens in the 3-2 loss.

Scouting Longwood: The Lancers were selected to finish sixth, one slot better than the Bulldogs in the Big South Conference preseason coaches poll. Longwood is 1-2-1 on the road so far this season and is looking to rebound off a 2-0 loss at home against George Washington.

Zach Attack: Asheville senior forward Zach Joens is on a roll, with three goals in the last three matches. On Wednesday night against Georgia State, he put the Bulldogs in front twice, with the opening goal of the match in the eighth minute, and a go-ahead goal 15 minutes into the second half.

QUOTABLES:

"It is always exciting to start Big South play and it is really great to start conference play at home on Greenwood Field.  The Big South had a great year in 2015 and the conference proved to be a very competitive endeavor with a high level of quality as we had three teams selected to the NCAA tourney.  2016 is shaping up to be very similar and we are excited for the opportunity to play against Longwood, who is a very athletic, talented team and are very well coached.  The goal of our non-conference schedule was to provide a forum for our players to prepare themselves for what looks to be a very challenging Big South campaign.  I think that we have learned a lot about ourselves and what we are capable of when we play to the standard of which we are capable.  I am very pleased with the way this group has navigated a very tough schedule and we are looking forward to tomorrow's match.

UP NEXT:

The Bulldogs will take a brief detour from Big South Conference play and host mountain rival Appalachian State, now in the Sun Belt Conference, at 7 p.m. on Tuesday, Sept. 27 at Greenwood Field.
