ASHEVILLE, N.C. – The UNC Asheville men's soccer team travels to Johnson City, Tenn. to take on the Buccaneers of East Tennessee State University at 7:00 p.m. on Sunday, Sept. 18 at Summers-Taylor Stadium.

 

NOTABLES:

Last Time Out: UNC Asheville got its first win of the season last Sunday, a 2-1 defeat of UNC Greensboro. After UNCG took the lead on a penalty kick in the 65th minute, the Bulldogs responded almost immediately with a goal by Brendan O'Dowd on a shot from 25 yards out. Asheville senior Zach Joens got the game winner on a penalty shot in the 79th minute.

 

Scouting ETSU: The Buccaneers come into Sunday's match fresh from the biggest win in program history, a 1-0 victory in Chapel Hill over the No. 1 ranked Tar Heels. The Bucs got the victory on a golden goal in the 92nd minute by Fletcher Ekern from Knoxville. ETSU features many international players, including keeper Jonny Sutherland and defender Joe Pickering of the U.K., along with midfielder Serge Gomis of Senegal and forward Joao Ramalho of Brazil.

 

Bucking History: On Tuesday, the Bucs got their first-ever win over a top-ranked team, and last Sunday, the Bulldogs defeated UNCG for the first time in program history after 13 losses and a draw. With both teams on the upswing, an exciting competitive match is expected.
