ASHEVILLE, N.C. – The UNC Asheville volleyball team looks to extend their five-game win-streak in their first two matches of the UCF Challenge on Friday, September 16. The Bulldogs will take on the host team UCF first at noon, followed by an evening match against Central Michigan.

 

The Bulldogs are coming off of a three-win weekend at home in the UNC Asheville Invitational. Asheville collected victories over North Carolina Central, Stetson and Alabama A&M.

 

This weekend will be their final non-conference tournament, leaving only one week leading up to their first conference match-up against the Camels of Campbell University in Buies Creek on Friday, September 23 at 7:00 p.m.

 

NOTABLES

Home-bodies: Four of the past five of Asheville's wins have come on their home floor of the Justice Center. In addition to this past weekend's three-match sweep in the UNC Asheville Invitational, the Bulldogs defeated Montreat 3-0 on August 31.

 

Tournament Team: Asheville added two Bulldogs to the All-Tournament team this past weekend: freshman Ansley Rooks and senior Shelby Erickson. Erickson was named the tournament MVP, while Rooks earned tournament team honors in her first collegiate appearance.

 

On UCF: The Knights are currently 7-3 in 2016 before conference play, dropping contests only to Southern Illinois, Florida State and LSU. Asheville and UCF share a common victory over Stetson with the Knights defeating them 3-0 (25-19, 25-17, 25-17), and the Bulldogs defeating them 3-2  (25-22, 14-25, 27-25, 24-26, 15-7).

 

On Central Michigan: The Chippewas' record of 5-4 features notable wins over Duquesne and Valpo, and losses to No. 7 Florida and Michigan State.
