Three Days 'Till Bulldog Cross Country

ASHEVILLE, N.C.- Three days 'till UNC Asheville's men's and women's cross country teams kicks off their 2016 season at Western Carolina on Saturday August 3. In order to prepare fans for the upcoming season, we would like to introduce cross country's class of 2017, including senior Jacob Fink.
Jacob comes to Asheville from Salisbury, N.C. He started out last season with a 31:07.4 in the 8K, but then by the end of the season improved that time to 28:04.1 at the Upstate Invitational. He also participated in the in the 5K in 2015 receiving his best time of 17:28.8 at the Western Carolina Invitational.
What is you Major:
Engineering with a concentration in Mechatronics
What is your favorite part about UNC Asheville?
My favorite part about UNC Asheville is the relationships you are able to build with teammates, professors, and the community. It's so easy, and even encouraged here.
What are your post-school plans?
After school I plan on finding a job as quickly as possible and getting my career in the engineering world started.
Why did you choose Asheville?
I chose Asheville because it offered the opportunity to run for a Division I college program and attain the engineering degree I wanted in a small school package that I knew would suit me best.
How long have you been running?
I started running my freshman year of high school, but I didn't start running year-round until college.
Who has been your biggest influence on the field?
My dad has definitely been my biggest influence.
What are three things you can't live without?
Family, friends, and running.
What's your favorite food?
All of it. I like all food too much to pick just one thing.
What nicknames do you have?
My teammates usually just call me Fink.
Do you have a favorite class you've taken here?
I really enjoyed Design of Complex Digital Systems I took this past semester.
When I'm not on the course/ track, I am…
...I am hanging out with teammates Dominic and Nathan!
What are you most looking forward to this season?
I am really excited that we are hosting the conference championship race this year at our home course!
What's something most people may not know about you?
I love the Andy Griffith Show.
Do you have a favorite place you've visited?
If going to school here can count as an extended visit, then Asheville definitely. Otherwise, maybe the Grand Canyon and the other national parks in that area.
