Statesboro, GA - Freshman Elvis Boateng's goal in the 56th minute proved to be the difference as UNC Asheville picked up a 2-1 road win over Georgia Southern in a lightning shortened exhibition to close the preseason this afternoon.

GAME AT A GLANCE

Junior midfielder Andrew Lawrence scored to give UNC Asheville a 1-0 lead in the 20th minute. Georgia Southern would answer back right away, scoring on a play off the ensuing kickoff. Zack Compton assisted on Lawrence's goal.

Boateng scored the game-winner just over 10 minutes into the second half on an assist from Jackson Allen. The game was then called around the 65th minute due to lightning.

UNC Asheville had a few chances to tack on more goals in each half, but Georgia Southern's goalkeepers made some outstanding saves.

QUOTABLES

"I thought we played pretty well against a good team," said UNC Asheville head men's soccer coach Mathes Mennell. "Everyone came out injury free, which is a good thing. For us, we definitely improved from Thursday, which was good. I'm very pleased with where we are. Anytime you can go on the road, play a good team and pick up a win, that means we're moving the process forward. We're looking forward to opening the season at Duke."
