GAME AT A GLANCE
O'Dowd's header, which came on a cross from Grady Bradshaw, put UNC Asheville up just 13:24 into the match. The Bulldogs had 10 more shots in the first half, but weren't able to put any across while taking a 1-0 lead into halftime.

Just over 10 minutes into the second half, VMI's Alex Hartman scored off a throw-in on an assist from Chris Spates.

NOTABLES
- Overall, UNC Asheville peppered VMI with 26 shots with eight going on goal, but they unfortunately came out with just one goal.

- Chris Katt and Tyler Moore each played one half in goal. Katt made the lone save as the UNC Asheville defense was able to hold VMI to just six shots overall and two on goal.

QUOTABLES
"Overall, I'm pleased with our first exhibition," said head coach Mathes Mennell. "We got a lot of people playing time and came through relatively injury free. Credit to VMI. They are much improved and made it difficult for us. I thought we had some very good performances to build on. Now we have short rest as we turn around and play against another very capable and well coached Georgia Southern team."

UP NEXT
- UNC Asheville will close out its preseason with a road matchup at Georgia Southern at 2 p.m. on Saturday.
