#15 Days 'Till Bulldog Volleyball

Asheville, N.C.- Tuesday August 11 leaves 15 days until Bulldog volleyball opens their 2016 season with a game against the University of Georgia on August 26 at 7:00 p.m. This will be the first of three matches for Asheville in the University of Georgia Benson Hospitality Tournament. To prepare for the first serve of 2016, meet #15 Shelby Erickson.
A 6'1 senior from Palm Beach, Fl., Erickson has contributed to the Bulldogs success for all three seasons of her career. In 2015, She played in 27 matches (88 sets), and finished the season with 148 kills, averaging 1.68 kills per set with an attacking efficiency of .195. Erickson also lead the team in serve receive with a side out percentage of .930, the best of any Bulldog with more than 10 attempts. Erickson will take on leadership role for Asheville in her senior season in 2016, and she will be one of two Bulldog seniors in the upcoming season.

What is your favorite part about UNC Asheville?
The community of athletes and how we all support each other.
What are your post-school plans?
Not sure what I want to do yet but hopefully spend some time traveling and then get a job in a big city working in business or finance.
Why did you choose Asheville?
Everyone here is so nice and welcoming! It's not like that where I'm from.
How long have you been playing volleyball?
I started playing when I was 11 on my middle school team and I had to beg my mom to let me play travel but she wouldn't let me until I was 13 because she didn't think I would actually stick with it.
Who has been your biggest influence on the court?
I think my mom has been my biggest influence. She always gives me encouraging words to live by and she's supports me in everything I do.
What are three things you can't live without?
My phone, really good food, and an annual trip to Disney world.
What's your favorite food?
Velveeta Mac n cheese
What nicknames do you have?
Shelbs, sheebs, mom
Do you have a favorite class you've taken here?
Art of the young child. I loved to finger paint and make puppets.
When I'm not on the court, I am… eating or sleeping.
What are you most looking forward to this season?
Winning the Conference Championship
What's something most people may not know about you?
I always eat my pizza crust first
Do you have a favorite place you've visited?
I went on a Mediterranean cruise before coming into my freshman year and it was my first time overseas and it was spectacular.
