Cardiff, Wales- Incoming track and field athlete, Matthew Harding will participate in the Welsh Athletics Under 20 Outdoor International meet in the 800m and the Medley Relay on Wednesday July 20.
The Invitational meet will be held in Wales' capital city of Cardiff, and will feature 13 running events and eight field events. Teams from across England and Wales will be represented in the International meet. Athletes who meet the age requirements were selcted for individual events based on performance standards while relay teams qualified at the Welsh Championships on 11th June.
"I have been selected to represent one of two Welsh teams competing. The one which I am running for seems to be made up of younger athletes such as myself, and the other is mainly made up of slightly older athletes. The teams that will be in attendance will be England South, England North, England Midlands and the Two Welsh squads."
In the 800m, Harding enters the competition with a season-best time of 1:54.97, the sixth fastest time in the field.
"We are very excited that Matt has been given the opportunity to race for the Welsh National Team in the under 20 championships. This a great opportunity for Matt to represent his country and build quality racing experience that will help him in his future races as a UNC Asheville Bulldog. Matt set his goals high this past season and worked very hard to reach them, so it is a testament to Matt's work ethic that he was been selected to compete at such a prestigious event," said assistant track and field and cross country coach Adam Puett.
