Bulldogs Named to NCCSIA All-State Team

ASHEVILLE, N.C. – A pair of UNC Asheville women's basketball players have been honored for their play this season, as Chatori Major was named First Team All-State and Tianna Knuckles was named Second Team All-State by the North Carolina Collegiate Sports Information Association (NCCSIA) this afternoon.

 

A total of 10 players representing seven different North Carolina universities were named to the 2015-2016 NCCSIA University Division All-State First and Second Teams. Nominees were submitted by North Carolina sports information professionals and voted on by the NCCSIA members.

 

Major, the Big South Conference's Player of the Year, led the Bulldogs in scoring after averaging 13.7 points per game while starting all 33 contests. The Camp Lejeune, N.C., native scored in double figures 23 times while leading the Bulldogs in eight different statistical categories.

 

Knuckles was the second leading scorer for Asheville this season and provided team-high points in 13 games. She led the Bulldogs in three statistical categories, starting 32 games this season and scoring in double-figures in 24 games. She finished the season ranked in the top 10 in the Big South in: Three-pointers made (2nd), Three-point shooting percentage (6th), Scoring (7th) and Field Goal Percentage (10th).

 

The pair helped Asheville to a 26-7 overall record, the best in the program's NCAA history, while leading the Bulldogs to their first Big South Regular Season Championship and second Big South Tournament Championship in program history. Asheville advanced to the NCAA Tournament for the second time in school history, falling to Kentucky.

 

Founded in 2002, The North Carolina Collegiate Sports Information Association (NCCSIA) is comprised of sports information professionals from NCAA Division I, II, III, NAIA and independent institutions from the state of North Carolina. The purpose of the organization is to promote collegiate athletics at all schools. Membership is open to anyone affiliated with a college, university or conference located in North Carolina, and whose area of responsibility lies within sports information.

 

The NCCSIA selects all-state teams in the University (Division I) and College (Division II, III, NAIA) divisions for men's and women's basketball, men's and women's soccer, volleyball, softball and baseball.
