Hi Bulldogs!
I hope your summer is going well. Those of us based in Asheville this summer have been working hard and having fun while doing so. Although we spend 3-5 hours working out between the pool & weight room daily, we still find time for jobs, school and of course, plenty of hiking!
My summer began with a transition from dorm life to a new apartment with another rising junior team member (Brittany Thomas AKA BT). Though I was quite excited to finally have a place of my own, I didn't realize how different “adulting” could be from campus living. I've learned how to pay bills, cook, and function without all the luxuries of campus, all in the span of 2 weeks! In addition, I've also mastered the art of swirling the perfect soft serve cone at Frostbite Ice Cream.
At the beginning of the summer I acquired a job at Frostbite Ice Cream. As many swimmers (like myself) generally spend their summers sitting in the tall white chairs wearing guard suits, I chose to be adventurous this time around. My days at work now center around ice cream, ice cream, and more ice cream! Don't worry though, all that hard work in the pool gives me the ability to indulge every once and a while!
My teammates and I are swimming with a local YMCA club team this summer. Though it has been strange to trade in our blue Asheville “A” caps for orange and black Piranha caps, it has given us the opportunity to mix up our training and meet lots of new people. The Piranhas put much focus on stroke work, something right up my alley! Although their workouts may be very challenging, we are having a great time and are improving tremendously as both swimmers and teammates. I look forward to seeing our hard work pay off at NC Long Course State Meet and, most importantly, throughout the upcoming season!
I hope you are all having as good of a time as we are here in Asheville! Train hard and enjoy the rest of your time with family and friends back home. I can't wait to reunite with all of you in August, fit and better than ever! Now get out there and swim some laps! Go Bulldogs!!!!!!!
