Bulldogs Open Big South Championships on Tuesday

2016 Big South Conference Outdoor Track and Field Championships
Location: Matthes-Hopkins Track Complex / Liberty, University- Lynchburg, Va.

LYNCHBURG– The UNC Asheville Men's and Women's Track and Field teams will complete their 2016 Outdoor season at the Big South Conference Outdoor Championships this Tuesday May 10 through Thursday, May 12.
The first event in the field for Asheville will be the women's long jump trials and finals at 3:00 p.m., and the first event on the track will be the women's 400m hurdles at 6:15p.m.
BULLDOGS TO WATCH
Men:
-Dominic Collichio is in contention for an All-Conference finish in the 5,000m run. The junior is ranked fourth with a seed time of 14:45.23.
-Asheville has a trio of Bulldogs on the All-conference bubble in the 10,000m with Collichio leading the pack in fifth with a time of 33:39.13. He is closely followed by freshman Zach Boone in sixth with a seed time of 33:39.14, and teammate Ryan Catrine in seventh with a time of 34:11.46.
-Senior Andy Thornburg looks for a finals appearance in both the 800m and 1500m. Thornburg is ranked 6th in the 800m at 1:53.67, with his teammate Chase Stevens directly behind him in seventh with a time of 1:53.90. In the 1500m, Andy is ranked ninth with a time of 3:58.53.
-Camden Coble looks to score points for the Bulldogs in the men's high jump. The freshman goes into the Championships ranked 7th with a mark of 1.91m.
-Nathan Kirse also looks to add to the Bulldogs' point total in the 3,000m steeple chase. Kirse is ranked 7th with a time of 9:52.90.
Women:
-Kayli Nichols looks for an All-Conference in both the 100m hurdles and the 400m hurdles. Nichols is ranked third in the 400mH with a time of 1:02.49, and fifth in the 100mH with a time of 14.41.
-Junior Argia Gibson is ranked sixth in the women's long jump with a mark of 5.63m (18'5.75”). Gibson is a returning All-Conference finisher in the long jump with a mark of 5.73m to earn second place at the 2015 Big South Conference Outdoor Championships.
-Sarah Heisner is ranked fifth in the 5,000m and the 10,000m and will look for an All-Conference finish in both events. Sarah is joined in the top 10 in the 10k by her teammates Phoebe Schneider, Erin Dalton and Amy Castle in seventh eighth and ninth respectively.
-Bulldogs Kelsie Rubino and Aylssa Lashway are separated by only .52 in the women's 800m with Rubino ranked seventh and Lashway ranked eighth.
-Rubino will be competing in the 800m/1500m double. She is also ranked sixth in the 1500m with a time of 4:37.00.
LAST TIME OUT
The Bulldogs' last competition was the Western Carolina Invitational on April 30.
-The meet was highlighted by three first place finishes from Bulldogs: Kelsie Rubino in the 1500m with a time of 4:44.43, Dominic Collichio in the 5,000 with a time of 15:34.69 and Sarah Heisner in the 5,000 with a time of 18:22.82.
-Kimani Anderson set a new school record in the men's 400m dash, posting a time of 49.50 for a fourth place finish.
-Kayli Nichols recorded a time of 57.71 in the women's 400m dash for a fifth place finish and third on Asheville's All-time list.
-Nateja Hale also moved into third on Asheville's All-time list in the women's triple jump, turning in a mark of 11.23m to finish sixth overall.
