ASHEVILLE, N.C. – UNC Asheville head men's soccer coach Matt Mennell has announced the addition of Tyler Krumpe as an assistant coach with the Bulldog soccer program.
Krumpe comes to Asheville after spending the previous four years with the L.A. Galaxy South Bay program, while he has coached at the high school level and as a graduate assistant at Loyola Marymount University after a playing career at LMU from 2008-2012. While at LMU, Krumpe played under Mennell, who was an assistant with the program for 14 years before coming to Asheville.
“I am very pleased to have Tyler join our staff here at UNC Asheville. Obviously, I am very familiar with him as I helped coach him at LMU,” Mennell stated. “He is developing into a very good coach and he will be very important to our success here in Asheville. The make-up of the staff we have in place with Matt Tellez, Jeremy Jordan, Tyler and Zak Davis is a really great mix. These coaches have come here to Asheville to help assist this program be the best that it can be. Thus, for me to be able to work with this staff on a daily basis is really something I am truly excited about.”
In his LMU career, Krumpe played in 77 career matches with 5,578 minutes as a defender, tallying two goals and 10 assists for 14 points in his career. He left LMU ranked fifth in career games played, tenth in career starts and second in career minutes. Krumpe was the 16th selection in the fourth round of the 2012 MLS Supplemental Draft, going to the San Jose Earthquakes.
"I am very fortunate to have touched down in a beautiful place like Asheville, and am ready for the opportunity to share my passion for world football in a new part of the country,” Krumpe stated. “I have been immersed in the coaching profession my whole life as my father, mother and late grandfather are all tremendous coaches and I would not be who I am today without their guidance and wisdom. I would like to thank Janet Cone, Terri Brne, and Coach Mennell for the opportunity to begin my coaching journey here at UNC Asheville.”
