Bulldogs Wrap Up Non-Conference Schedule at Western Carolina

CULLOWHEE– The UNC Asheville Men's and Women's track and field teams completed the last meet of their 2016 non-conference schedule at the Western Carolina Invitational on Friday, April 29.

NOTABLES

-Asheville's men finished the meet with 56 total points and a fourth place finish, while the women scored 60 points to take fifth place.

-The meet was highlighted by three first place finishes from Bulldogs: Kelsie Rubino in the 1500m with a time of 4:44.43, Dominic Collichio in the 5,000 with a time of 15:34.69 and Sarah Heisner in the 5,000 with a time of 18:22.82.

-Kimani Anderson set a new school record in the men's 400m dash, posting a time of 49.50 for a fourth place finish.

-Kayli Nichols recorded a time of 57.71 in the women's 400m dash for a fifth place finish and third on Asheville's All-time list.

-Nateja Hale also moved into third on Asheville's All-time list in the women's triple jump, turning in a mark of 11.23m to finish sixth overall.

-In the men's 800m, Bulldogs Andy Thornburg and Chase Stevens went fourth and fifth overall and fifth and sixth on the Asheville All-time list with times of 1:53.67 and 1:53.90.

On the Meet: “We did a lot of good things this weekend, and had highlights in events across the board. It was a good quality meet, and just what we needed heading into conference. On the speed/power side we had a lot of breakthrough performances and personal bests. Now, we need to work on getting fresh and preparing for conference.”

Following today's action, the Bulldogs will travel to Lynchburg, Virginia for the 2016 Big South Conference Outdoor Track and Field Championships on May 10-12.
