2016 Beynon Sports Catamount Classic

CULOWHEE, N.C. – The UNC Asheville Track and Field teams continue their 2016 Outdoor season with the two-day Beynon Sports Catamount Classic hosted by Western Carolina University this Friday and Saturday.

This weekend's meet will feature Western Carolina, East Tennessee State, Wofford, Mercer, Furman, Citadel, Marshall, Dayton, Catawba, University of the Cumberlands, Emory & Henry, King University, Lee's McRae, Milligan, Montreat and North Greenville.

 

NOTABLES

-Day one for the Bulldogs will feature men's javelin, women's triple jump, men's and women's high jump and the men's 10k.

 

-The remainder of the events will take place on Saturday, April 16 with the first event on the track being the women's 4x100m relay beginning at 12:15 p.m.

 

-In all running events throughout the weekend, the schedule will run Women, followed by Men.

 

LAST TIME OUT

-Asheville's highest finisher last weekend was junior Dominic Collichio in the men's 5,000 meter run. Collichio clocked a time of 14:45.23 to finish fourth on Asheville's All-time list and seventh overall.

 

-Asheville's Kelsie Rubino just missed a spot in the top ten in the women's 1,500m. Rubino posted a time of 4:40.88 for an eleventh place finish.

 

-The Bulldogs also saw program-high times in the 4x400 meter relays. The women's team of Kayli Nichols, Alyssa Lashway, Argia Gibson and Anna Gelbach posted a time of 3:53.80 to earn second place on the Asheville All-time list and 13th overall. The men's team of Kimani Anderson, Chase Stevens, Patrick Osborne and David Hager recorded a time of 3:24.48 to achieve fourth on the Bulldogs' All-time list and 16th overall.

On the Meet-“We're excited for the meet this weekend, it will be a great opportunity for us to go out and compete and race against our mountain rival. It will be nice to be racing for heat wins and getting in that mindset as we prepare for the end of the season.”

Following this weekend's meet, Asheville will return to Georgia Tech for the Georgia Tech Invitational on April 22-23.
