JOHNSON CITY – The UNC Asheville Men's and Women's track and field teams wrapped up day one of the Buccaneer Track & Field Invitational this evening with some solid performances. Day two will begin tomorrow morning at 8:30 a.m. with the 60 Meter Hurdles (Heptathlon).
NOTABLES
- Day one for the Bulldogs was highlighted by back to back record breaking performances in the women's 60 Meter Hurdles from sophomore, Kayli Nichols. She broke her own school record in the prelims with a time of 9.06 and then again in semifinals with a time of 9.05. Nichols finished in tenth place overall.
-In the men's 200 Meter Dash, Hunter Koike posted a time of 22.45, improving on both his indoor and outdoor previous best performances. His time earned him the number three spot on the Asheville all-time list. Freshman, Kimani Anderson finished just behind Koike with a time of 22.90.
- The women contributed two personal bests in the women's 5,000 Meter Run from sophomore, Phoebe Schneider (18:54.62) and junior, Marissa Banks (19:00.08). Schider's time placed her thirteenth overall and Banks finished closely behind in fifteenth.
- The Bulldogs posted another impressive performance in the women's Distance Medley Relay. Asheville came in fourth of twenty-one teams. The team of Casey Greenwalt, Maddie Lowe, Alyssa Lashway and Sarah Heisner posted a time of 12:27.69 just ahead of their previous season-best of 12:28.22.

On Day One: “Overall, today was a good start to the meet for us. We were happy to see progression in a few different events as we approach the Big South Conference Meet. We've got a lot more of our athletes competing in tomorrow's events and we're looking forward to see what we can do on day two."
