JOHNSON CITY – The UNC Asheville track and field teams return to Johnson City, Tennessee for the two-day Buccaneer Track & Field Invitational this Friday and Saturday.
NOTABLES
-Day one will begin at 8 a.m. on Friday with the 60m hurdles (pentathlon), and will wind down around 8:15 p.m. with the Men's 5000m run. Saturday's events will start at 8:30 a.m. with the women's Long Jump and will wrap up around 5:45 p.m. with the Men's 4x400m relay final.
- With his mark of 50.67s from the Thundering Herd Invitational, freshman Kimani Anderson sits in eighth place in the Big South Conference in the men's 400m dash. He is currently 2.21 seconds off of the first place time.
-Bulldog junior, Sarah Heisner heads the conference standings in the women's 5,000m run with a time of 18:21.95. She is more than half of a second in front of second place from Coastal Carolina University.
-Asheville has secured the first four marks in the Big South men's 800m run. Chase Stevens leads the conference with 1:56.14, followed by his teammates: Blanton Gillespie (1:57.36), Patrick Osborne (1:57.39) and Andy Thornburg (1:58.87) in second through fourth respectively.

On Marshall- “Our last meet at Marshall was a great weekend for us in a lot of ways. We had strong performances in many different events, but we brought an energy and a focus that we need to build on moving forward.
On ETSU- “This weekend will be exciting because a few of our runners will be debuting their marquee events for the first time as they prepare for conference. As a coaching staff, we are looking forward to seeing those times and marks.”
On Looking to Conference- “As a whole there has been a lot of excitement and momentum created throughout the athletics department. We want to continue to carry that into the last few meets and going into conference.”

-Following this weekend's competition, the Bulldog Men and Women will return to Huntington, West Virginia on February 12 -13 to compete in the Chipotle Marshall Invitational hosted by Marshall University.
