2015-16 Big South Conference Indoor Track & Field Championships

End Day One

Location: Blacksburg, Va.

 

BLACKSBURG – The UNC Asheville Men's and Women's track and field teams concluded day one of the 2015-16 Big South Conference Indoor Track and Field Championships.

 

NOTABLES

- Day one for Asheville was highlighted by two All-Conference performances from the Men's and Women's Distance Medley Relay teams. The Women's team of Casey Greenwalt, Argia Gibson, Alyssa Lashway and Kelsie Rubino posted a time of 12:04.83 for a program record and a trip to the podium in second place. The men's DMR team of Caleb Smith, Matthew Barrera, David Hager and Andy Thornburg also made the podium with a third place finish.

 

-Hunter Koike is leading the Heptathlon with 2,730 points after four events on the first day. Koike recorded season-bests in the Long Jump (6.66 meters), and the Shot Put (11.08 meters). Tomorrow's events include the 60 meter hurdles, pole vault and the 1,000 meter run.

 

- Asheville had two Bulldogs qualify for the men's 800 meter run finals to be held tomorrow. Patrick Osborne in the fifth position with a season-best time of 1:56.31 and Chase Stevens with a time of 1:57.43 as the eight seed.

 

-Freshman, Camden Coble placed fifth in the men's High Jump with a mark of 1.89 meters. Coble collected four points for the Bulldogs with his top five finish.

 

-Junior, Dominic Collichio placed seventh in the men's 3,000 meter run with a time of 8:40.16. Collichio is the first Bulldog to score in the men's 3,000 since the 2008 indoor season.

 

- Sophomore, Kayli Nichols qualified for finals in the women's 60 meter hurdles with a personal best and school record of 9.01. Nichols will be seeded sixth of the 14 finalists.

 

-Senior, Alyssa Lashway qualified for finals in the women's 800 meter run as the four seed with a time of 2:15.37.

 

-Freshman, Kimani Anderson qualified for the Men's 400 meter dash finals with a time of 50.73. Anderson will be the five seed out of 13 runners in the final.

 

Day two of competition will begin tomorrow morning with the Heptathlon 60 meter hurdles at 10:00 a.m. The Championships will conclude with the 4x400 meter Relay at 4:25 p.m.

On Day One: “We're happy to have a strong start to competition on day one. We definitely had highlights, especially our men's and women's DMR teams with All-Conference finishes.  Now, we are making sure that everyone is getting rested up and ready for finals tomorrow so we can score some more points and have another successful day.”
