2016 NCAA Regionals

Location:, Charlottesville, Va.

Charlottesville, Va.—For the UNC Asheville's cross country team, Dominic Collichio traveled to Virginia to compete in the NCAA Regionals. He finished out the season with a strong finish of 31:18.6 in the 10k.

"He was leading at the mile mark, and was right there with the leaders at the 2k. In hindsight, maybe we should have relaxed more, but it was a good opportunity for him to learn how to be up in the front," said assistant Coach Puett.

Collichio placed 78th overall running 1:20 faster than previous races, and broke the school record. He had run 25:43.4 at the Big South Conference Championships in the 8k. The previous year he had placed 17th, and this year he was All-Conference placing 7th.

"Now going into track season when he runs the 5k and 10k, and runs a 5:45 he knows that it feels really easy, and I've done this before over the grass," said Coach Puett.

Overall the Bulldogs had a decent season. The ladies placed fifth and the men placed sixth.

"On the women's side I was happy with how that ended up. It's was a little bit of a challenging year at first, getting them to buy into the program and get them to where their fitness was at. Then they put it together at the conference meet," said head Coach Jesse Norman.

The women had a good showing at the Big South Conference Championship with seven of the ten girls competing having their season best.

"On the men's side, they started out really good and then didn't run as well in the end. As a coaching staff we were disappointed, but we are going figure out as a coaching staff what to do to improve. But it's the way it rolls sometimes," said Coach Norman.

This race officially marks the end of the Bulldogs' 2016 cross country season, which marks the start of Indoor and Outdoor Track.

"I'm excited. We got the pieces, we just have to make sure it all lines up," said Coach Norman.
