BUIES CREEK, N.C. – The UNC Asheville Bulldogs take on the Campbell University Camels in men's soccer at 7 p.m. on Friday, Oct. 7 at Eakes Athletics Complex in Buies Creek, N.C. This game was originally scheduled for Saturday but was moved up a day due to the threat of Hurricane Matthew's impact.
NOTABLES:
Last Time Out: The Bulldogs stayed undefeated in Big South Conference play, defeating Gardner-Webb 1-0. Freshman Luiz Dantas chipped a well-timed pass from midfielder Devin Francis past the G-W keeper in the ninth minute. Asheville goalie Chris Katt made that goal stand up despite 13 shots on frame by G-W.
Scouting Campbell: The Camels will try to continue the strong play they showed defeating a well-regarded Winthrop team 4-1 on Wednesday despite conceding the first goal of the match. Campbell sophomore Gabe Parrish scored the equalizer to notch his team-leading fourth goal of the season. The Camels then scored three more times, making the most of their six shots on goal for the match.
Getting Off On The Right Foot: Wednesday's match marked the first collegiate start for Luiz Dantas who scored the lone goal of the match. A native of Brazil who set a single-season scoring record in high school at the Rabun Gap-Nacoochee School in Georgia, Dantas also played American football in high school, handling kick-off duties for the Eagles.
QUOTABLES:
"We're very excited to play Campbell on Friday night. We've had a little change of plans due to weather, but we're fotuante to be able to get this game in. Campbell has a great facility, they are well-coached and they play a very attractive brand of football, so it should be a great game. For us, we are playing pretty well right now, and we're looking forward to continuing our process and getting better at the finer details of the game. I think we put together a pretty mature performance against Gardner-Webb who made it very difficult for us. The Big South is a really tough conference and every game is up for grabs, so we are looking forward to a great 90- minute affair down in Buies Creek." - Head Coach Mathes Mennell
UP NEXT:
The Bulldogs will travel to Chapel Hill for their last non-conference match of the season, facing the nation's fourth-ranked team, the Tar Heels of UNC-CH at 7 p.m. on Tuesday, Oct. 11.
