04.01.2015 | General

ASHEVILLE, N.C. – The second annual Bulldog Challenge raised over $21,000 throughout the month of March, with over 170 new alumni donating to the Challenge.

The Bulldog Challenge represents an opportunity for student-athlete alumni to challenge each other to give back to their teams. This year's Challenge finished with over 240 total gifts and the $21,000, which nearly tripled last year's final total. Last year's first annual Challenge saw over 100 former student-athletes participate and raise more than $8,000.

Over 200 alumni contributed to the 2015 Bulldog Challenge, up from the 112 total alumni gifts from last year.

"First of all, I want to thank our alumni, friends and family for accepting The Bulldog Challenge the month of March. You helped us raise over $21,000 for our sport teams. We had over 170 new alumni gifts come in during March and that is huge.  Our student-athletes and teams will benefit from your generosity," said Betsy Blose, who organized and ran the Challenge.

"Secondly, it takes a team effort to get the job done. I want to thank our Coaches, our Team Behind the Team and Members of the Advancement Team for getting behind the Bulldog Challenge and giving it legs. We look forward to continuing to build on this experience."

Director of Athletics Janet R. Cone stated "I want to thank everyone who participated in the Bulldog Challenge. I am thrilled that our former student-athlete alumni continue to be an example to all of us of how to be Champions and Leaders by giving back to Bulldog athletics.

The men's and women's soccer teams tied for the most alumni gifts with 61 each, while the women's soccer team had the most new gifts with 46 new alumni giving to this year's Challenge.
