ASHEVILLE, N.C. – The UNC Asheville men's soccer team will test its standing on Tuesday night when the Bulldogs travel to take on perennial power Wake Forest in Winston-Salem. NOTABLES

-Zach Joens has scored a goal in both games this season after entering 2015 with zero career goals for the Blue and White.

-The meeting with Asheville will be the second match in a row for Wake Forest against opponents whose previous game was declared a no contest (Florida Gulf Coast vs. UCF, Asheville vs. James Madison).

-Tuesday's contest will be the first match between the two teams since the 2000 season when Wake Forest topped the Bulldogs 7-0.

-The Bulldogs have never opened a season 3-0 (since 1988). Asheville has started a season 2-1 on five occasions ('90, '95, '99, '01, '10).

-Wake Forest is ranked No. 16 in the TopDrawerSoccer.com national poll and No. 6 in the NSCAA South region poll last week.

QUOTABLES

“We are extremely excited for the opportunity to play Wake Forest. They have such a strong and storied history in Division I men's soccer with multiple trips to the NCAA Tournament and a national championship. They are the standard for what we are trying to aspire to – a wonderful institution of learning and a really good soccer program in North Carolina. The opportunity for our guys to play a good team from the best conference in college soccer, the ACC, is something we are excited about. We are going to go out, play for 90 minutes, play our style and see where the chips fall. Really excited for our guys to have the opportunity to play against a top program and find out exactly where we are in our process.” - Head Coach Mathes Mennell

UP NEXT

-Following the match at Wake Forest, Asheville will get set to travel to Burlington, Vermont for a pair of games this weekend against the University of Vermont (9/11) and the University of New Hampshire (9/13). The next Bulldog home match will be when they begin Big South Conference play against High Point on September 26.
