ASHEVILLE, N.C. – The UNC Asheville volleyball team opens Big South Conference play on Friday night when they host Gardner-Webb inside the Justice Center. Asheville enters the match after going 1-2 at The Citadel Tournament last weekend, losing Saturday to end what had been a six-match winning streak. Gardner-Webb comes into Asheville after dropping their last four matches and six of their last seven overall.
NOTABLES
-UNC Asheville is 3-2 in Big South Conference openers the last five seasons, all coming against Gardner-Webb.
-Asheville and Gardner-Webb will open BSC play against each other for the seventh consecutive season on Friday night.
-The Bulldogs are 10-7 all-time against Gardner-Webb, but lost both matches last season in five sets.
-Junior Madison Vaughn leads the Big South in Blocks per Set (1.26/per) and is ranked No. 52 nationally in that category. Vaughn's 53 total blocks is the third-most in the BSC and ranks her 77th nationally.
-Senior Bryn Pfeiffer enters the night in the top 25 nationally in Digs per Set (5.12/per, No. 22) and is ranked third in the Big South in that category. Pfeiffer's 220 total digs to date is the fourth-most in the BSC and is 78th nationally.
