Bulldog Distance Runners Open Georgia Tech Invitational

ATLANTA, GA – The UNC Asheville track teams helped open the Georgia Tech Invitational on Friday night at the George C. Griffin Track on the campus of Georgia Tech.
The Bulldogs had multiple runners notch new personal bests in the relatively light day of competition. Saturday action begins at 11 a.m. and features field events, sprints, distance events and relay races.
On the women's side, all three Asheville runners in the 1500 meter run each set new personal best times. Kelsie Rubino (4:40.70) led the trio of Bulldogs, followed by Maddie Lowe (4:45.32) and Casey Greenwalt (4:47.80).
The women's 5000 meter run featured six Bulldogs, including four inside the top 20. Sarah Heisner led the Asheville runners in the race, finishing in 16th with a new personal best time of 17:49.15, followed by Kasey Briggs' 17:51.01 time in 17th place. Erin Dalton (18:13.35, 21st) and Adrian Etheridge (18:25.15, 24th) also were in the top 25.
Argia Gibson finished 12th overall in the women's long jump with her 5.49 meter distance, while Sam Barbeau came in sixth in the men's javelin throw with his distance of 44.45 meters.
On the track for the men, Asheville had three runners compete in the 1500 meter run, led by Dominic Collichio (4:05.38) and followed by Chase Stevens (4:12.34) and David Hager (4:14.09).
The lone Asheville runner in the men's 5000 meter run was Ryan Catrine, finishing with a time of 16:03.43. Keenan Devaney set a new personal best in the men's long jump with his distance of 6.13 meters as well.
The action continues on Saturday as the bulk of the Bulldog teams take part in the full slate of events. Action begins at 11 a.m. with the field events before the running events kick off at 1 p.m. at George C. Griffin Track.
