ASHEVILLE, N.C. – The UNC Asheville track and field teams saw four personal records set on Friday at a pair of different sites - the Tennessee Relays hosted by the University of Tennessee and the Catamount Classic hosted by Western Carolina.
The Bulldogs wrapped up their second day and final day of action at the Tennessee Relays with new personal records in the 400 meter dash, 800 meter run and 1,500 meter run, while they saw a personal record set in the men's javelin throw on the Catamount Classic's day one.
Asheville will also participate in several events on Saturday during day two of the Catamount Classic.
Overall, the Bulldogs notched four top-20 finishes in their 10 total events over the two sites on Friday.
In Tennessee, Zoe Hickey finished the 400 meter dash in a time of 59.39 to set a personal best in that distance, while Alyssa Lashway set a personal best in the 800 meter run with her 2:16.47 time. Kelsie Rubino clocked a 4:41.32 time in the 1,500 meter run for a personal best in that event as well.
Kassandra Pierre's 1:05.34 gave her 15th place in the women's 400 meter hurdles, while Lashway finished 18th in the 800 meter run while setting her new PR. Lashway was followed closely by Casey Greenwalt (2:19.11, 20th) to give Asheville a pair of runners inside the top-20 in the same race.
In Cullowee, Sam Barbeau was the only Bulldog to compete on Friday, as he notched a personal best 47.93 meters in the javelin throw on his way to a sixth place finish.
With the distance and midrange runners taking center stage for the Bulldogs the last two days in Knoxville, the Asheville relay teams and speedsters will compete on Saturday in Cullowee. Action is set to begin at noon at Western Carolina's Catamount Sports Complex.
