Light Night Opens Yellow Jacket Invitational

ATLANTA, GA – The UNC Asheville distance runners helped open the Yellow Jacket Invitational on Friday night at the George C. Griffin Track on the campus of Georgia Tech.

 

 

The Bulldogs had multiple runners in both the men's and women's 5000-meter run, the only event of the meet's opening night.

 

 

On the men's side, a pair of Asheville runners finished inside the top-20, as four total Bulldogs ran in the men's race. Andy Thornburg finished in eighth place overall with his time of 15:28.67, while Sklyer Winchester turned in a time of 15:40.52 for a 15th place finish. Kevin Paradise (16:01.93) and Ryan Catrine (16:17.81) finished in 22nd and 25th place, respectively.

 

 

Two Bulldog women competed in the women's race, with Sarah Heisner finishing with a time of 18:36.98 to finish 20th overall. Phoebe Schneider tallied a time of 19:30.67 to finish just behind Heisner in 24th overall.

 

 

The action heats up on Saturday as the bulk of the Bulldog teams take part in the full slate of events. Action begins at 10:30 a.m. with the field events before the running events kick off at 12:30 p.m. at George C. Griffin Track.
