Track and Field Wraps Up Indoor Championships

WINSTON-SALEM, N.C. - The final day of the 2015 Big South Indoor Track and Field Championships on Friday saw great individual performances from the women's squad as well as nice finishes by the UNC Asheville men's and women's distance squads.
Individually, the highlight of the day came from Kelsie Rubino, as she placed inside the top 10 in a pair of different events. Rubino first turned in a time of 5:05.52 to finish seventh in the women's one mile run before following that up with a sixth place finish in the 800 meter run with a time of 2:21.56.
Caleb Smith turned in a time of 4:25.18 to finish seventh in the men's one mile run, while Mario Thorpe's distance of 13.0 meters gave him a fifth place finish in the men's triple jump.
The distance medley teams finished third and fourth, respectively, for the Bulldogs, as the women's team of Kassandra Pierre, Zoe Hickey, Alyssa Lashway and Lauren Etheridge turned in a time of 4:01.74 in the finals, while the men's team finished the finals with a time of 3:31.72 by Sergeneno Rankin, Jason Perry, Patrick Osborne and Chase Stevens.
In the women's 5000 meter run finals, Casey Briggs finished seventh with a time of 18:17.79, while Erin Dalton followed right behind her with a time of 18:18.97 in eighth place.
The Bulldog teams will now take some time off before beginning their outdoor season on March 20 at the 49er Classic in Charlotte.
