Records Continue to Fall on Day Two at CCSA Championships

ATHENS, Ga. – Records continued to fall on day two at the CCSA Championships for the UNC Asheville women's swimming team at Gabrielsen Natatorium on the campus of the University of Georgia.
Through two days, Asheville's 174 points is the highest it has scored at the CCSA Championships in the history of the swimming program with two days of competition remaining.
“Another great session for the Bulldogs,” said head coach Elizabeth Lykins. "Our season long hard work is paying off; we set two more varsity records tonight. We are so proud of Ashley Ireland's 50 freestyle, a lifetime and team record, 24.17. We look forward to carrying the momentum into day three."
The Bulldogs picked up 36 points in the 500-yard freestyle finals. Alejandra Sanchez was the top finisher for the Blue & White touching in 5:03.10 to finish fourth in the B final. Allie Snyder topped the lifetime best that she set in the morning prelims by posting a time of 5:03.99, good for fifth in the B final. In the C final, Galen Broido swam a 5:11.00 and Brittany Thomas touched in 5:11.22, topping her lifetime best for the second time in the same day. Sanchez, Snyder and Thomas' times were lifetime bests.
Ashley Ireland added to the record breaking times with a lifetime-best and a team-record 24.17 in the C final of the 50-yard freestyle.
Ireland, along with Elizabeth Murray, Alessandra Troncoso and Reid Jackson bested another team record, going 1:36.98 in the 200-yard freestyle relay.
The Bulldogs began the day with 12 swimmers posting either lifetime or season-best results in morning prelims. In the 500 free, Allie Snyder swam a season-best 5:05.91 to qualify for the B final as did Broido (5:08.62), which qualified her for a spot in the C final. Brittany Thomas joined Broido in the C final after swimming a lifetime-best 5:15.22 in the prelims.
Rachel Van Noordt recorded a lifetime best in the 500 free with a mark of 5:22.82, while Brittany Parker topped her previous high mark this season by touching in 5:29.39.
Stephanie Smith posted a 2:11.75 in a time trial to set her new lifetime best in the 200-yard individual medley, and Carly Emerson swam a 2:14.63 to top set a new season best.
In the 50 free, Ireland qualified for the C final by swimming a lifetime-best 24.22. Alessandra Troncoso just missed the C final after besting her previous top time with a 24.48.
Shannon Kennedy swam a 25.26 in the 50 free to set her new personal best, while Van Noordt (25.79), Morgan Dickie (25.61), and Jaymee Panian (26.71) each swam season bests.
Asheville will head into day three of the CCSA Championships in seventh place, trailing Campbell by just 17 points.
The Blue & White will continue with day three of the CCSA Championship at Gabrielsen Natatorium at 10:00 a.m. with the 400 individual medley.
