Women's Swimming Opens Strong at CCSA Championships

ATHENS, Ga. – The UNC Asheville women's swimming team started day one of the CCSA Championships by breaking school records in both relays on Wednesday evening at Gabrielsen Natatorium on the campus of the University of Georgia.
"I'm really excited with how we started off the meet," said head coach Elizabeth Lykins. "We set two team records and one freshman record this evening. We've created great momentum to move forward and continue to have success tomorrow."
The "A" relay team of Reid Jackson, Alessandra Troncoso, Alexandra Van Dorsten and Ashley Ireland eclipsed the previous varsity record by three seconds with a time of 1:44.68 in the 200-yard medley relay.
Additionally, Stephanie Smith, Shannon Kennedy, Carly Emerson and Elizabeth Murray set a new freshman record in the event, posting a time of 1:49.78.
The Blue & White finished off the first night of the conference championship by shaving 11 seconds off of the previous school record in the 800-yard freestyle relay. Emily Werth, Alexandra Van Dorsten, Allie Snyder and Alejandra Sanchez touch in 7:36.95.
Following the first day of competition, the Bulldogs have accumulated 92 points and sit in eighth place heading into the second day of competition.
Day two starts at 10:00 a.m. tomorrow with the start of individual prelims beginning with the 500-yard freestyle at Gabrielsen Natatorium.
