ATHENS, Ga. – The UNC Asheville women's swimming team begins action at the Coastal Collegiate Swimming Championships today at 6 p.m. This year's four-day championship meet is being held at University of Georgia's Gabrielsen Natatorium.

The Bulldogs hope to improve on last year's 10th place finish. Asheville head coach Elizabeth Lykins is excited about this year's meet.

“We are looking forward to championships and excited to swim fast and see all of the season's hard work pay off,” declared Lykins.

The meet starts today but begins fully tomorrow at 10 a.m. It will run through Saturday evening.

Asheville has not swam since defeating North Carolina A&T on Jan. 31. The Bulldogs easily defeated the Aggies A&T, 212-32. Asheville won all 14 races on the day and cruised to its third win of the season.

Asheville was led on the day by Emily Werth who won three individual events. She captured the 200 freestyle (2:02.20), 200 backstroke (2:14.06) and 100 butterfly (1:01.16)

Freshman Ale Sanchez won two events on Saturday. She took the 1000 freestyle (11:13.12) and the 200 individual medley (2:19.61).
