CHARLOTTE, N.C. – UNC Asheville senior Christine Lakatos has been named the Big South Conference's Volleyball Attacking Player of the Week for her play in the final week of the regular season, the conference announced today.
Lakatos finished with 31 total kills in the Bulldogs' two matches last weekend (7 total sets), including 21 in Friday night's victory. In addition, Lakatos added 29 digs, five block assists, one solo block, one service ace and one assist while accounting for a total of 36.0 points over the two matches.
Lakatos is the second Asheville player named as one of the conference's volleyball players of the week this season, joining Cameron Pryor, who was named Defensive Player of the Week earlier this fall. Prior to Lakatos, the last Asheville player to be named the conference's Attacking Player of the Week was former Bulldog Anna Moore, who was named Co-Player of the Week on October 14, 2013. Moore was also Attacking Player of the Week in September of that season.
Lakatos and the rest of the Bulldogs begin play in the 2015 Big South Championship on Thursday afternoon against Winthrop. Asheville finished the regular season with a 15-11 overall record and will be the No. 4 seed for the tournament, which will be played at High Point University.
