ASHEVILLE, N.C. – The UNC Asheville swim team has been ranked for the first time in the programs' short history, with the Bulldogs coming in at No. 40 in CollegeSwimming.com's latest Mid-Major poll released Tuesday.

The Bulldogs, two competitions in to their fourth season of existence, are one of eight Coastal Collegiate Swimming Conference members ranked in this week's top 50.

“It's a step in the right direction to be ranked for the first time in the Mid-Major Poll for this team and program,” head coach Elizabeth Lykins stated. “We are recognized amongst some of the best teams in the country for our fast, early season swimming with hopes to climb the ranks moving forward against additional opponents. The ladies have challenged themselves to make every day in the pool better than the previous and their hard work is paying off.”

“I like where we are headed and this is nice recognition for UNC Asheville Swimming.”

Asheville opened the season with some great individual and team relay times on October 2 and 3 at the All-North Carolina Invitational, and followed up their showing in Greensboro with a 108-72 dual meet victory over CCSA foe VMI last Friday at home inside Justice Center Pool.

Other CCSA schools ranked include: FGCU (No. 1), Liberty (No. 6), Georgia Southern (No. 21), Gardner Webb (No. 31), Campbell (No. 32), Incarnate Word (No. 46) and North Florida (No. 47). The Bulldogs will compete against Campbell, North Florida and Liberty (twice) later in the season.

The Bulldogs will hit the road for a pair of dual meets in the coming weeks, beginning at Campbell on October 24 before a trip to Brenau on October 30. Asheville returns to CCSA action at home on Saturday, November 7 when they welcome North Florida to town for an 11:00 a.m. dual meet.
