Women's Swimming Rolls Past North Carolina A&T

ASHEVILLE, N.C. – The UNC Asheville women's swimming team sent senior Ashley Ireland out a winner Saturday in the Bulldogs final home meet of the season.

 

Asheville easily defeated North Carolina A&T, 212-32 as the Bulldogs won all 14 races on the day and cruised to its third win of the season. Prior to the meet, Ireland was honored for her career at Asheville.

 

"We were happy with our final dual meet of the season and the team's effort today,” stated Bulldog coach Elizabeth Lykins. “It was great to recognize Ashley Ireland in her career final dual meet on Senior Day. I want to thank our home crowd for being excellent supporters throughout the season."

 

Asheville was led on the day by Emily Werth who won three individual events. She captured the 200 freestyle (2:02.20), 200 backstroke (2:14.06) and 100 butterfly (1:01.16)

 

Freshman Ale Sanchez won two events on Saturday. She took the 1000 freestyle (11:13.12) and the 200 individual medley (2:19.61).

 

Ireland went out a winner by winning the 50 freestyle with a time of 25.14.  

 

The Bulldogs will begin preparations for the Coastal Collegiate Swimming Association Championship meet that will be held at the University of Georgia from Feb. 18-21.
