ASHEVILLE, N.C. – The UNC Asheville men's soccer team returns to Greenwood Field on Wednesday to take on Big South Conference foe Radford starting at 5 p.m. Admission is $5.
Wednesday's match can be seen for free on the Big South Network and can be accessed at uncabulldogs.com under the multimedia tag.
Asheville (1-4-1, 0-1-0 BSC) looks to break a four-game losing streak and is happy to be at home for the first time since a Sept. 5 home loss to VMI, 1-0. That match was played off campus due to the field conditions at Greenwood Field after a heavy rain. This will be the first time the Blue & White has played a match at Greenwood Field since Aug. 31 when the Bulldogs downed Brevard, 2-1.
Matt Kern's club opened Big South Conference play with a 3-0 loss at High Point Saturday night. Things don't get easier with the Highlanders coming to town. RU is 4-2-2 on the year and 1-0-0 in league play after a resounding 6-1 triumph over Presbyterian College on Saturday.
“We are looking forward to playing at home on Wednesday versus Radford. We hope to get back on track after three difficult away matches,” stated Kern. “Radford is very well coached and has some special players. Our aim is to defend collectively and create more chances in the final third.”
The Bulldogs would like to get on the scoreboard as Asheville has been shutout in four consecutive matches. Sophomore transfer Jackson Allen leads the Bulldogs in scoring with three goals. He scored two in his first match as a Bulldogs against USC Upstate on Aug. 29.
Senior goalkeeper Dan Jackson has done a solid job in goal for the Blue & White. He has played every minute of every match this season.
This starts a two-game homestand for the Bulldogs as they'll host Gardner-Webb Saturday afternoon starting at 5 p.m. It will be Alumni Day as some former Bulldogs will take the field at 1 p.m. for the annual Alumni Game.
