Cross Country Finishes 2nd & 3rd at Asheville Carnival

ASHEVILLE, N.C. – The UNC Asheville women's cross country team took second place, while the men took third on Saturday at the third annual Asheville Cross Country Carnival that was held at Asheville Christian Academy.
Regionally-ranked and national power Alabama won both races. The Crimson Tide women took first in the women's race with 16 points, while Alabama men had 19 points to win the 8K event. Katelyn Greenleaf of Alabama won the women's 5K race as she posted a time of 17:44.46. Robbie Rose-Farnham from Alabama won the men's 8K race with a mark of 25:04.98.
Leading the way for the Bulldog women was junior Erin Dalton. She took 10th on the day with a time of 18:20.15. Freshman Casey Greenwalt was 11th with a time of 18:32 over the 5K course.
Sophomore Sarah Heisner came in 14th at 19:04.29. Phoebe Schneider took 15th with a mark of 19:05.32. Kasey Briggs came in 18th at 19:12.67. Adrian Etheridge took 20th at 19:17.67. Asheville finished second with 68 points.
On the men's side, Andy Thornburg led the Bulldogs as he came in 16th at 26:03.11. Brent Schouler was 18th at 26:03.85, followed by Caleb Smith with a time of 26:08.32 in 19th.
Patrick Osborne finished 21st at 26:15.17. Skyler Winchester took 27th (26:40.50) and Nathan Kirse 28th (26:40.94).
The Bulldogs took third with 101 points. Western Carolina was second with 75 points. Marshall was fourth with 120 points, followed by Mercer with 148.
