ASHEVILLE, N.C. – The UNC Asheville women's swimming team will host an exhibition meet against local foe Mars Hill University at Justice Center Pool on Saturday morning starting at 10 a.m.
The Bulldogs are in their third year of competition after reviving the sport in 2012. Head Coach Elizabeth Lykins has steadily built the program each year. Last season, the Bulldogs finished with a winning season in dual meets with a 6-5 overall record.
This year Asheville has its biggest roster to date with 19 swimmers on its roster. The Bulldog captains this year will be senior Ashley Ireland and junior Galen Broido. Both have been with the Asheville program from the restart of the program along with junior Alessandra Troncoso.
"We are looking forward to hosting Mars Hill on Saturday,” stated Lykins. “This exhibition will be a good gauge to see how much progress we have made in a short period of time. It's an opportunity for our returners to ramp up for the season and the newcomers to get their feet wet, so to speak."
Asheville opens the 2014-15 season in Greensboro at the North Carolina Invitational the weekend of Oct. 3-4. The Bulldogs first regular-season home meet will be against Coastal Collegiate Swimming Association member Campbell on Saturday, Oct. 11 at 10 a.m.
