STATESBORO, Ga. – UNC Asheville goalkeeper Dan Jackson made nine saves, but Mercer scored late in the first half and then added two goals in the second half as the Bears downed UNC Asheville 3-0 in the first round of Springhill Suites Invitational at Eagle Field at Georgia Southern.

The Bulldogs fell to 1-2-1 on the season and will play Georgia Southern on Sunday at 1:30 p.m.

"Mercer did a good job of punishing us on a couple of mistakes tonight,” state Asheville coach Matt Kern. “We have to give full credit to Mercer for taking their goals well.  I was disappointed that we were not able to create more chances, and we will look to improve for Sunday versus Georgia Southern."

Will Bagrou put Mercer in front for good in the 42nd minute when he scored his third goal of the season to put the Bears in front, 1-0.

Mercer scored in the 53rd minute of the second half to build the lead to 2-0 as Chandler Klemm tallied for the Bears.

Jackson Gooden scored with eight seconds left in the game to complete the scoring.

The Bears out-shot the Bulldogs, 15-6. Quentin Reynolds took two shots for the Blue & White.
