FORT LAUDERDALE, Fla. – The UNC Asheville women's swimming team spent this past week training and participating at the Shark Invitational at Nova Southeastern University.
Head Coach Elizabeth Lykins was pleased with the work the Bulldogs did in Florida.
“The team had a great week of training and competition in Florida. We had an opportunity for high-quality work and enjoyed the long course 50 meter training facility,” stated Lykins. “During our stay, we swam outside for all pool sessions and conducted yoga, stretching and work-out circuits in the beautiful south Florida sunshine.
“We concluded the week of work with two days of competition at the fifth Annual Nova Southeastern Shark Invitational. The team learned a lot about mentally tough racing,” added Lykins.
Some members of the Bulldog team had some thoughts about the week in Florida.
"I learned a lot about myself and my teammates. I learned that being mentally tough can help me overcome all challenges,” commented freshman Elizabeth Murray. “It was super fun to spend winter training practicing outside and going to the beach with my teammates."
"Who would've thought that Christmas training could be challenging and fun,” declared sophomore Rachel Van Noordt. “Whether it was training or tanning, we were abundant with positive energy."
"We've had a great opportunity to do some different training, get closer as a team and even spend time at the beach,” stated junior co-captain Galen Broido. “We've been training really hard this week so these last few days of racing are really challenging. We've been doing a great job with team morale, which is good because December training is our final push of hard work before conference championships."
UNC Asheville will take a few days off for the holidays. The Bulldogs next competition comes in a tri-meet at Lenoir-Rhyne when they face LRC and Queens College on Friday, Jan. 2.
